GENERAL MEDICAL COUNCIL

Play a key role in our fitness to practise procedures

Part time Medical Case Examiner (Psychiatrist)

Based in Manchester • £Competitive

The General Medical Council (GMC) registers doctors to practise medicine in the UK and aims to promote and assure high standards of medical practice. As part of our role, we rigorously investigate complaints relating to the conduct, health or competence of medical practitioners to ensure they are fit to practise.

As a Medical Case Examiner, you’ll take on a senior, highly responsible role that is central to the GMC’s fitness to practise procedures. You’ll be reviewing cases following initial investigation, to establish whether there is a realistic prospect of establishing that a doctor’s fitness to practise is compromised and may pose a risk to patient safety and deciding whether cases should be referred to a fitness to practise panel for hearing.

To apply for this role you must be a fully qualified Psychiatrist and currently registered, holding a license to practise.

You’ll take on a busy and diverse workload – making key decisions and providing valuable insight, advice and guidance to our investigations teams. Key to success in the role will be your keen sense of impartial judgement and your proven ability to make accurate and balanced decisions. Strong analytical skills, experience in working with complex information and the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing are also highly important.

In return, you can look forward to an excellent benefits package which includes a final salary pension scheme and private medical insurance.
