HAEMATOLOGY
with an interest in Stem Cell Transplantation
Applications are invited for a Consultant in Haematological Oncology with a specialist interest in Stem Cell Transplantation. The postholder will be expected to develop interests to complement those of the other Haematologists. An interest in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia and Myeloproliferative Diseases would be particularly welcome. This is a replacement post.
 You will join a dynamic team of five other Consultants in providing a Haematological Oncology Service which offers Comprehensive Secondary and Tertiary Care to a large catchment area in NW England including level four Services for Autologous, Allogeneic related and unrelated Donor Transplants. The Department performed 107 (62 Allogeneic) Transplants in 2011/12 and numbers are expected to increase. Haemato–oncology is part of a large and well-integrated Department which currently also includes three Consultants specialising in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, one Consultant specialising in Haemoglobinopathy, one Consultant specialising in Blood Transfusion, two Specialty Doctors, five Specialist Trainees and a BMT Fellow as well as Specialist Nurses.
 The Clinical Department, including the ward, Haemophilia Centre and Day Unit have new facilities and are supported by state of the art laboratories, all of which have been rebuilt as part of the strategy for redeveloping the whole Trust in the largest PFI outside London. The programme was completed in 2009 and has new facilities for Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynaecology and Ophthalmology and brings Children’s Services on to the Central Manchester site.
 Manchester Royal Infirmary is a large Teaching Hospital situated next to the campus of the Manchester Medical School and Manchester University. The bed complement of 686 caters for Acute Surgical and Medical Services to the primary population served by the Trust and in addition the Trust houses regional Services in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Nephrology/Renal Transplantation and Haematology. There is a full range of specialist Medical and Surgical Services on the central site including a large and busy Emergency Department, Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) facilities.
 You will participate in an on-call rota for General Haematology and Haematology Malignancy on a 1:5.5 basis. There is a separate rota for Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
 The successful candidate will be required to apply for an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure.
