Applications are invited for a Clinical Oncologist post to join a team of nine Oncologists at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. Ideally, specialisation would include Urology, Lung and CNS Cancers. Some opportunity exists for negotiation and development of other specialist interests.
The Centre has a catchment population of 890,000 across Northamptonshire, North Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas. Oncology Services are also provided at Partner Hospitals in Kettering and Milton Keynes. The postholder may be required to support Clinics and Chemotherapy Treatment at one of these hospitals.
The Oncology Centre currently has three Linear Accelerators and is undergoing a tender for a further machine and a replacement programme for existing Linear Accelerators. IMRT and IGRT are well developed at Northampton. HDR Brachytherapy is also well developed in the Centre and, in addition to Gynaecological Cancers, also treats Prostate and Oesophageal Cancers. Prostate seed Brachytherapy Services were introduced in 2002 and the Centre offers both Low and High Dose Rate Treatments to patients from other areas. SBRT is at an advanced stage and expected to be implemented in July 2012. The Centre treats all Major Cancers, and Northampton is a Specialist Centre for Gynaecology, Upper GI and Urological Cancers.
