PAEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the largest Children’s Hospital in the country, with 371 beds and state-of-the-art facilities. In addition to providing General Paediatric Services for the local population, the Hospital provides Tertiary Referral Services for the North West Region and beyond. Paediatric Cardiology in Manchester is a part of the Manchester–Liverpool Network, with Paediatric Cardiac Surgery based at Alder Hey. Manchester has inpatient and outpatient Cardiac Services with fully equipped diagnostic facilities, i.e. Cardiac Catheterisation, CT scan and MR scan. Located on the same site, there is a large Tertiary Obstetric and Neonatal Service based at St Mary’s Hospital, with comprehensive Fetal Cardiology Services. Manchester Royal Infirmary has the largest Adult Congenital Heart Disease Centre in the North West.
This post is available immediately for a period of six months from appointment.
The post provides excellent experience in Paediatric Cardiology, with the opportunity to learn and develop further skills in the management of Congenital Heart Disease (including Echocardiograms) in all ages from newborn to age 18 years. There will be opportunities to get experience in Fetal and Adult Congenital Heart Disease. In the daytime, you will be doing ward rounds with the hot week Consultant, receiving referrals, seeing outpatients, and working alongside a Consultant. You will be part of a team of 5.5 Consultants, one Paediatric ST3 and one Paediatric ST4+. The post will be suitable for someone with at least 12 months’ previous experience in Paediatrics, and is especially suitable for someone intending to take Paediatric Cardiology as a special interest.
