County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (FT) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Occupational Health Consultant to join a rapidly growing, and developing service.
This is an exciting time to join our Occupational Health Service having recently started work to integrate the FT team with our team which provides occupational health and health and safety services to GP and Dental Practices across County Durham and Darlington and, even more recently, having secured the very prestigious contract to provide Northern Deanery Doctors and Dentists (circa. 1,800) with access to a professional and confidential occupational health and medical education support service. Moreover the Trust is a dynamic place to work having become an integrated care organisation on 1st April 2011, following the integration of the Foundation Trust and the Community Health Services. The Trust is developing a clinical strategy reflective of integrated care and as such we have a clear vision for our future direction which includes: Strengthening and developing Clinical leadership; Development of new integrated models and new ways of working and new roles for staff; Strengthening service level involvement and developing greater autonomy within the clinical (care) management groups; Strengthening our approach to improving the health and wellbeing of our patients, service users and our staff.
This post sits within the Directorate of Human Resources and Organisational Development (HR and OD) and is managerially responsible to the Associate Director of People and Organisation Development (AD P and OD) and professionally accountable to the Medical Director. The role is to provide clinical leadership to the Occupational Health Service and to plan service provision at a strategic level in partnership with the AD P and OD and the Occupational Health Service Manager, who is managerially responsible for the running and development of the service and the nursing and support team.
We are passionate about the role Occupational Health can and will play in supporting the development of the new integrated Trust and the new care management groups and key to this is the staff health and well being agenda, ensuring we have a workforce fit for purpose going forward. The basic contract is for ten Programmed Activities (PAs) and there will be a discussion with the postholder regarding the final job plan prior to commencement of the appointment. Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council as an Occupational Medicine Specialist or within six months of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) on the date of interview.
At this stage you will work mainly out of University Hospital North Durham and Darlington Memorial Hospital but will be expected to provide a service from our other sites as the need arises. Additionally you will be required to provide a service to our contractors which currently span other local NHS Trusts as well as some non NHS work across the North East.
