Applications are invited for the above substantive Consultant posts. The successful candidates will join a team of professionals in providing a General/Gastrointestinal Surgical Service to the population of York and its environs (approximately 350,000).
These are new posts to work with the eight Gastrointestinal Surgeons (five Colorectal, three Upper GI) in the provision of Elective and Emergency GI Surgical Services. The Trust has a separate Vascular Unit comprising five Vascular Surgeons on a stand alone Vascular on-call rota and six Breast Surgeons (not on-call).
The successful candidate will be expected to have an interest in all aspects of Colorectal Surgery. Participation in General Surgical Emergency Surgery is expected on a shared 1:10 basis. The development of a special interest/area of expertise to fit in with those existing already in the Department will be encouraged. Research interests and participation in on going projects are to be encouraged as well as the development of new projects. There is an expectation that the appointee will participate in the Undergraduate Teaching Commitment of the Department as part of the Hull and York Medical School.

Candidates must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent, and have Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or expect to obtain it within six months of the interview date. Appointment to these posts will be subject to an enhanced Criminal Record Check.
