3 Counties Cancer Network
One YEAR LOCUM CONSULTANT
CLINICAL ONCOLOGY
(Full time, maximum part time, job share)
Reference: 318–678
This post will support Oncology Services in partnership with the present Consultant Oncology staff, based in the Gloucestershire Oncology Centre at Cheltenham General Hospital. The Consultants provide the Non-Surgical Oncology Services for the whole of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and South Worcestershire. The contract will be held by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust although the appointee will spend a proportion of their time at other hospitals in the catchment area. At this time the post is to cover the replacement of a colleague who is retiring. A complete review of all Oncology Medical Staffing is being undertaken as part of the development of a five year strategy for the Centre.
 In addition to sessions in Cheltenham you will have a commitment to an outside unit in Hereford, Worcester or Gloucester. You will continue the process of site specialisation within the Department. The current post provisionally covers the attached job plan however, those with a range of site specialised interests are encouraged to apply. The plan contains a site specific commitment to Urology and Breast and also a geographical commitment.
 The 3 Counties Cancer Network has a well established record in participation in Clinical Trials and has exceeded the national target for recruitment in NCRN studies. The new appointees will be encouraged to continue this philosophy across the Network through the Department’s Clinical Trials Unit. An active teaching programme for Specialist Registrars (rotating with Bristol), Junior Doctors, the new Gloucestershire Academy, Nursing (ENB) and Palliative Care all give ample opportunity to teach.
 This is a golden opportunity with many attractions: Cohesive Oncology Departmental Team; Recently rebuilt purpose-designed Oncology Unit; Close working with Haematology and Palliative Care in a joint Clinical Directorate; Well-established Clinical Trials Unit with full Research Nurse complement; Active Teaching Programme; Close links with the 3 Counties Cancer Clinical and Research Networks; Excellent record in research, including national randomised trials; Integrated working environment with other specialties; Foundation Trust; Benefits of working in a fully equipped General Hospital; Centrally placed in a beautiful area to live; Excellent schooling; Easy access to other major centres and to local cities;
