Research Fellow in Clinical Pulmonary Physiology

Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics and the Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit, Oxford Centre for Respiratory Medicine

Salary scale for University Grade E64
£30,992 - £49,670 per annum
Fixed term post

We are seeking a Research Fellow to organise and deliver clinical studies in
Pulmonary Physiology.

You will join a dynamic team working from both the Department of Physiology,
Anatomy and Genetics (Oxford, OX1 3PT), which has a strong track record
of delivering studies in human physiology, and the Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit,
a UKCRC registered Clinical Trials Unit specifically focused on respiratory disease,
and based in the Oxford Centre for Respiratory Medicine (Oxford, OX3 7LE).

This post builds on exciting observations by Professor Robbins’ group in healthy
volunteers that there is a strong interplay between iron status and oxygen sensing.
Duties include: organisation of delivery of clinical trials, including assessing,
advising and treating volunteers; provision of expert clinical advice; providing
support to members of Professor Robbins’ research team; presentation of results
and contribution to trial reports and publications.

You will need to be Specialist Register Grade in a relevant speciality, such as
respiratory medicine, general medicine, anaesthetics and intensive care or sports
medicine, with full General Medical Council Registration and a demonstrable
knowledge and experience of exercise or cardiopulmonary medicine. You must
have: excellent interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to plan and
manage projects over significant timescales; the ability to work as part of team;
and to feel comfortable and confident interacting with patients in a research study,
administrative staff, and the broader research community.

Previous experience of clinical trials and an understanding of research
methodology is not essential but would be an advantage, as would evidence
of previous participation in research, audit or publication.

This post is funded by the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre and is available
for 1 year in the first instance.
