Bronglais General District Hospital
We are looking for 2 energetic, enterprising, broad based general surgeons to further develop and modernise surgical services to this beautiful part of rural Wales.
The successful candidates will work within the Scheduled Care Directorate at Bronglais General District Hospital. You can develop your own surgical interest and further development of laparoscopic and day surgery is welcomed.
These 2 posts are to replace retiring consultant surgeons.
General Surgical services for Bronglais General District Hospital will be expanded for day case and short stay surgery.
Successful candidates will possess excellent team working skills and ability to work flexibly with colleagues is essential in order to maximise efficiency of our clinical facilities, and should have commitment to training and teaching.
There will be active networking and collaboration with other major sites in Hywel Dda Health Board hospitals and also with Swansea University.
The Surgical Department at Bronglais General District Hospital is manned by 3 consultant general surgeons who have a wide range of surgical experience and skills; supported by 5 very experienced middle grade surgeons.
The Hospital is served by an excellent and helpful radiology and endoscopy unit. The latter has recently received an exceptional JAG accreditation.
Multidisciplinary meetings are held weekly via video link with other major sites.
Our current operating theatres will be further enhanced by the addition of a purpose built day surgery unit which will house 2 theatres due to open early 2013 as part of a £38 million development within the hospital. Furthermore there are plans to provide 2 new major theatres following the completion of the present redevelopment.
Bronglais General District Hospital is within walking distance to the town centre, train station, sea side, National Library of Wales and Aberystwyth University with its excellent art centre, cinema, sport centre and climbing wall. Neighbouring Aberystwyth University provides education to 12000 students and the Health Board has recently signed a memorandum of understanding which enables access to the Research Department and offers other facilities to Health Board Staff.
You will discover that Ceredigion (West Wales) is a beautiful, quiet, safe and picturesque countryside. Its hills, valleys, rivers, Cambrian mountains, and a stunning costal path are all attractive sites for hill walkers, hikers, mountain bikers and horse riders. There is good access to water sports and cheap membership to golf courses.
The area is known for its low crime rate, good family life and good primary and secondary schools with excellent after schools activities.
