Applications are invited for the post of EDITOR: European Journal of Hospital Pharmacy: Science and Practice (previously published as two separate editions, Science and Practice).

Helping hospital pharmacists to provide better patient care: the official JOURNAL OF THE EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF HOSPITAL PHARMACISTS (EAHP).

Hospital pharmacists play an integral role in the management and treatment of patients, and an integrated approach is becoming more prominent as hospital pharmacist specialisation across Europe is being discussed, and patient safety has never been higher on the agenda. Also integrated are two separate editions, the Science and the Practice editions are being merged into one quality title. It is therefore, a timely opportunity for a new Editor to transform the journal into an essential read for those interested in advancing the science, practice and profession of hospital pharmacy. The journal will provide a rich mix of news, opinion, debate and research of direct relevance to those involved in hospital pharmacy, as well as those involved with academic research, clinical, technical and social pharmacy, pharmaco-epidemiology and Pharmaco-economy. It will encourage the science of improvement, debate, and new thinking on improving the practice for pharmacists, and provide better patient care.

The EAHP seeks an Editor who can advance the newly re-branded journal’s reputation profile and reach, and provide engaging and informed content.

The successful candidate will have a vision for the role that a high-impact scholarly journal can have on improving knowledge for hospital pharmacists, resulting in improved patient safety. He/she will recognise the need to entertain and engage the various audiences and develop its clinical content and reach out to Healthcare Professionals caring for the needs of patients. Prior editorial experience, for example as an Associate Editor or member of editorial board(s), is desirable but not required.

The successful applicant should expect to spend two days in total each week on journal-related activities, and will be encouraged to add expertise to the editorial team, bearing in mind that the principal criterion for publication is potential impact on patient care. The successful applicant will be free to select his/her own team of Associate Editors and board members.

Applicants need not be based in the UK.

Closing date for applications is 10th May 2012. Interviews will be held either mid to late May or June 2012. It is envisaged that the outgoing Editor will gradually hand over during the third quarter of 2012 and the successful candidate will officially take up the post of Editor by August 2012. Term of office is three years in the first instance, with an option to renew for a further two years.
