General Pharmaceutical Council

Clinical Advisers & Medical Assessors

Location: London and Nationwide

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the regulatory body for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in England, Scotland and Wales. One of the GPhC’s principal functions is to monitor pharmacy professional’s fitness to practise and to deal fairly and proportionately with complaints and concerns. We are looking for medical professionals to join our pools of medical assessors and clinical advisers who provide expert opinion when a case involves the health of a registrant.

Medical assessors are required to examine registrants and submit reports providing their professional opinion regarding the registrant’s fitness to practise and any recommendations about the management of the case. They may also be required to provide updated reports, or to provide ongoing supervision, monitoring and diagnostic testing of registrants as required.

We are looking for medical assessors from across the country but would specifically like to receive applications from those working in the South West, Midlands, North, North West and North East areas of England as well as Glasgow. We welcome applications from a range of medical professionals to conduct health assessments including those who specialise in psychiatry or substance misuse.

Clinical advisers attend hearings and meetings of the statutory committees and offer independent advice to the panel within their area of medical expertise. Hearings and meetings usually take place in London and we would specifically welcome applications from those who live in or around the London area.

Medical assessors and clinical advisers must be registered with the GMC with a license to practise. Medical assessors must have access to appropriate facilities to conduct examinations.

An estimated time commitment cannot be given because this will depend on the number and nature of health cases that arise. When instructed medical assessors are required to submit reports within 1 month.
