The Cayman Islands Health Services Authority is one of the leaders in health care in the region; it covers the three islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. The Authority has a 124 bed hospital in George Town (24 hour full service medical facility), an 18 bed hospital in Cayman Brac, 5 Health Centres, a Dental Eye Clinic. The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory, with a population of approximately 55,000, located about 450 miles south of Florida. The islands enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the Caribbean.
The post-holder’s principal accountabilities are:
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this position provides the effective link from the operational functions of healthcare delivery to the administration of the HSA and the organization’s strategic function. The Medical Director will be responsible for developing and implementing highly effective approaches to education, liaison, engagement, and problem resolution to ensure smooth adoption of HSA programs across the employed medical staffs. In conjunction with medical staff leaders, the postholder is expected to be an active facilitator to engage member physicians, promote physician partnership with the hospital, and develop a culturally cohesive medical staff that is well positioned for success. He/she must have credibility as an experienced clinical and administrative leader who can guide the development, implementation and oversight of the medical and practice management programs and strategies needed to ensure success for both the physicians and the hospital. Ultimately responsible for performance evaluations of the HSA employed physicians. Some direct patient care responsibilities may be required.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- The successful applicant must be registered as a Medical Doctor within one of the qualifying jurisdictions and be able to obtain registration as a Specialist in the Cayman Islands.
- At least 10 years of relevant management experience, most of which should have been spent in senior management positions in a healthcare delivery environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and computer skills are required.
Salary: CI$120,310 to $166,524 per annum
Benefits: Health care coverage at the Authority’s facilities and overseas treatment where necessary subsidized dental and optical services; 25 days vacation per annum and 6% pension contribution plan. A relocation allowance to cover the costs of 120 cubic feet or 1,000 pounds is also provided.
