General Medical Council

Assistant Director – Employer Liaison

£Competitive + benefits
Based Manchester with UK travel

As the independent regulator for doctors in the UK, the GMC protects, promotes and maintains the health and safety of the public by ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine. Building our reputation with the medical professional is vital to achieving our goals. As part of our reform agenda, we have established an Employer Liaison Service to improve our relationships with medical directors in the NHS and independent sector and support them particularly in relation to fitness to practice and revalidation matters.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive, you’ll lead the new Service. You’ll be responsible for the remote management of a team of around 15-20 Employer Liaison Advisors, meeting them weekly to provide guidance and ensure cases are handled correctly within our legal framework. You’ll also personally liaise with medical directors to provide advice and support on GMC fitness to practise thresholds and guidelines. In addition you’ll contribute towards policy-making and service/infrastructure improvements within the Standards and Fitness to Practise Directorate and manage the budgets for the Service.

You must have extensive, senior-level experience. Your background should demonstrate your ability to handle complex policy issues, provide authoritative guidance, understand legal procedures and develop stakeholder relationships. We’re also looking for the expertise to draft clear, concise correspondence and documents involving highly sensitive issues. The credibility to add value to a highly qualified team in a fast-paced environment will be key.

As well as the opportunity to take on a very interesting and demanding role and make a tangible contribution towards the quality of medical care in the UK, you can expect competitive remuneration including membership of the GMC pension scheme.
