This is a new post based at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infi rmary, serving a scattered population of approximately 148,000 in South West Scotland.
You will join a team which comprises of two consultants, speciality doctor, a rotating middle grader, two cardiology nurse specialists, rehabilitation team and heart failure nurses, and will contribute to the further development of an established and progressive multidisciplinary service.
This position offers an exciting opportunity, working closely with excellent GPs, to play a major role in the further development of cardiological services in the region. The medical unit includes an 8 bed Coronary Care/Medical High Dependency Ward and a 20 bed Medical Admission Unit. A full range of cardiac services are provided, including catheterisation facilities, permanent pacemakers and transoesophageal echo. There will also be the option to participate in acute medical receiving. Sessions for interventional work or specialised electrophysiology in a tertiary referral centre will be encouraged if desired. We have well developed links with our tertiary referral centre at Golden Jubilee National Hospital for advanced heart failure, congenital heart disease and electrophysiology as well as coronary intervention and cardiac surgery.
There is a hospital wide weekly educational programme and suitable time will be allowed for CPD. There is a weekly echo meeting and monthly cardiology educational programme. The region has a Managed Clinical Network for Coronary Disease, the fi rst of its kind in Scotland. Medical students rotate regularly from Glasgow and Edinburgh through the unit, which is recognised for specialty training. Our “foundation years” links are with West of Scotland hospitals. There is an energetically active Research and Development support unit on site.
Prospective candidates will require to be on the GMC Specialist Register and will hold a CCT or be within 6 months of obtaining the certifi cate, or will be an established Consultant Cardiologist.
