Joint Executive Director of Public Health for Lancashire

Job type: Permanent

Staff Group: NHS Consultant/NHS Very Senior Manager

Salary: NHS Consultant Contract, DPH plus out of hours supplement

Working pattern: 37.5 hours/week

Lancashire is a large and diverse county; home to over a million people. It comprises coastal resorts, historic cities, countryside and moorland, and industrial areas as well as small market towns, ports and commuter settlements. The diversity of the county is reflected in the significant and stubborn health inequalities between neighbourhoods and districts.

The current public health reforms provide new and exciting opportunities for partners to work

together to unleash the assets of Lancashire’s communities for health and wellbeing. Lancashire County Council and NHS Lancashire are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Joint Executive Director of Public Health. For a visionary and motivational leader, with a proven track record of public health achievement and partnership working, this is the chance to drive improvement in the health and wellbeing of a challenging and diverse county.

Lancashire County Council is committed to integrating action to improve health and wellbeing into all of its functions, consequently the Executive Director of Public Health will have a broad influence across the whole organisation and will need the skills and sensitivity to work in a complex and changing Partnership environment. The post holder will be principal advisor to the Health and Wellbeing Board and influential in developing a Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

Initially, the appointee will report to the Chief Executives of NHS Lancashire and Lancashire County Council until March 2013, which is the point of transfer of the Public Health function to the Lancashire County Council, due to take place in April 2013. The post holder will then become jointly accountable to the County Council Chief Executive and the Secretary of State through Public Health England.

To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter to Janet Soo-Chung, Chief Executive, NHS Lancashire.

Closing date: 6th April 2012.
