Perth Royal Infirmary

This new Consultant post gives an opportunity for the successful applicant to join an enthusiastic team in a progressive Unit that is reshaping the delivery of these services to the population of Perth and Kinross. The Unit is also aiming to play a central role in the provision of an enhanced undergraduate teaching programme for students from Dundee University Medical School.
 Medicine for the Elderly and General Medicine services at Perth Royal Infirmary are undergoing an exciting period of change and innovation. The Medicine for the Elderly Service includes a 30-bedded Assessment/Rehabilitation ward, as well as specialist input across the Perth and Kinross area including Community and Day Hospitals, Assessment Clinics, Falls Clinics, Movement Disorder Clinics and Orthopaedic Liaison. Stroke services include a new 26-bedded Stroke Unit and rapid access Neurovascular Clinics. It is anticipated that this appointment will take a central role in the delivery of Medicine for the Elderly Services.
 This appointment will also facilitate the anticipated redesign of the Acute Admission Unit on the Medical floor so that appropriate Elderly and Stroke patients are managed by the service throughout their hospital admission.
 The successful appointee will participate in the general unselected Medical Take. The post will be based at Perth Royal Infirmary, with possible outreach work in the Community Hospitals and intermediate care environment, enabling the service to build on the well-developed Early Supported Discharge and Crisis Response services. In addition this new appointment will join the present Medical staff of the Medicine for the Elderly and Stroke Service in taking on the responsibility for developing and providing enhanced Medical Undergraduate Teaching for the University of Dundee in Perth Royal Infirmary.
 At present there are plans to develop a broad range of teaching resources on the Perth Royal Infirmary site and the successful applicant would be expected to input actively into this process. Candidates would be expected to have previous experience of involvement in the development and teaching of Undergraduate students, and show evidence of a strong commitment to Medical Education. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of  Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility to the Specialist Register (CESR)(CP) at the time of interview for the post. This post is offered on the basis of 10 programmed activities in the first instance, however, applications are also welcomed from candidates who for personal reasons may be interested in working part time.
