We have a Trust Service Post vacancy at ST1/ST2 level within the Emergency Medicine Department at the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust to commence from 1 February 2011, initially for six months with a possibility for a further six month extension.
 The Department sees 35,000 patients per annum. The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic team that supports and delivers a modern, comprehensive Emergency Service. There are currently three Emergency Department Consultants, five Middle Grade Doctors, seven Junior Doctors and four Nurse Practitioners. The Emergency Department includes a fully equipped four-bed resuscitation bay, dedicated Paediatric facilities and co-located CT scanner. There is co-ordinated access to regional PCI for Acute Myocardial Infarction. We deliver a Thrombolysis for Stroke Programme and Emergency Ultrasound is available in the Emergency Department. All imaging is viewed electronically through WEBPACS and there is a telemetry link to the Ambulance Service. All major Trauma in the region presents to the Emergency Department.
 The Peninsula Medical School has new state-of-the-art dedicated educational facilities within the Postgraduate Centre and Medical students from the PMS are on regular placement within the Emergency Department. There are well established teaching programmes for all Junior Doctors, and all Trust Grades in the Emergency Department have the same access to funding and study leave as the equivalent Junior Doctors in training.
 Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust covers the north quarter of Devon, as well as a small portion of North Cornwall. With 50 miles of spectacular coastline from Lynton to Bude and with most of the remaining landmass being rural, the area is arguably the most attractive and unspoilt in Devon. North Devon provides a wonderful environment for family life and recreation. The countryside has facilities for most outdoor activities and interests, including surfing, sailing, fishing, rock-climbing and mountain biking. The area has both Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks and other Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
