Applications are invited for colorectal fellowship rotating between St Thomas’ and UCL hospitals. This will be the fifth year of the post and it has been extremely successful to date.
The post will commence from October 2010 for twelve months with six months being spent with each unit. You should have completed your surgical training and have your CCT or equivalent, or be within approximately 6-12 months of obtaining for the CCT or equivalent.
St Thomas’ has five colorectal surgeons, Mr Carapeti, Mr George, Mr William, Mr Vivek Datta and Mr Amir Darakhshan. UCL has six colorectal surgeons, Mr Richard Cohen, Mr Alastair Windsor, Mr Austin O’Bichere, Mr Alec Engledow, Mr James Crosbie and Professor Paul Boulos. The UCLH unit also has a large IBD practice in addition to a very busy intestinal failure practice. Last year the unit treated 50 cases of enterocuta neous fistula. Collaboration with Dr Anton Emanuell’s physiology unit provides a busy pelvic floor and tertiary proctology practice. In addition, the unit has a busy minimally invasive practice with access to a Stortz OR1 and is part of the UCLH Endometriosis Centre. This is the busiest centre of its kind in the UK, dealing with a lot of complex disease that requires minimally invasive colorectal involvement.
Additional training will be provided in radiological imaging, nutrition and colonoscopy.
Informal enquiries should be made to Mr Mark George, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, telephone 020 7188 6475 or Mr Richard Cohen, telephone 08451 555 000 ext 3059. This job does not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval.
