FACULTY OF OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE

of the Royal College of Physicians

DIPLOMA IN DISABILITY ASSESSMENT MEDICINE (DDAM)

This is a professional qualification for doctors in the assessment of disability. It is recognised that sympathetic and competent  assessment of individuals with disability will remain an essential skill of virtually all practising physicians and is critically important for  doctors undertaking work in relation to the award of state sickness and disability benefits. The government is encouraging a shift in emphasis from ‘disability’ to ‘ability’ and competent clinical  assessment is one of the first parts of this process. Professional examination success in this discipline will become increasingly important for those doctors whose main practice is disability  assessment.

The examination will be in three parts: Parts I and II examine  theoretical knowledge and its application using multiple choice and modified essay questions. Part III examines clinical assessment skills by OSCE and medium-length case scenarios. Only those  candidates who are successful in both theory papers may proceed to the subsequent clinical examination.

Parts I and II:  25 October 2010 £555
Part III:  29/30 November 2010 £666
