ADVANCED LAPAROSCOPIC COLORECTAL SURGERY

Applications are invited for two 6 month Fellowships in Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery, primarily working with Mr Richard Molloy, Mr Andrew Renwick and Professor Patrick O’Dwyer. The first commences on 2 August 2010 and terminates on 28 January 2011. The second post commences on 1 February 2011 and terminates on July 29 2011. The training teams have a large experience of Laparoscopic Colon Resection and procedures for Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Colorectal emergencies as well as being the regional referral unit for the treatment of Retroperitoneal Tumours.
 You will primarily work between the three hospitals comprising 7 Colorectal Surgery/Oncology Specialist Surgeons. The team provides a full range of advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery and individual surgeons within these hospitals also have a subspecialist interest in Laparoscopic Morbid Obesity Surgery and the open and Laparoscopic management of Retroperitoneal Tumours. It is expected that you may also gain experience in several other units within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board hospitals where Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery is performed. These are supernumerary posts with a job plan that places its main emphasis on training in theatre. Participation in the emergency on-call rota will not be a requirement although can be arranged.
 Those trained in the UK should have evidence of Higher Specialist Training. Ideally the successful candidates will be post CCT, although candidates who are within 12 months of completion of training may also be considered. Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. Prior experience in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery would be beneficial although not a necessary requirement. To practise Medicine in the UK you need to hold both GMC registration and a licence to practise. These posts are sponsored by an unconditional grant by Ethicon Endo-Surgery.
