Royal Cornhill Hospital, Aberdeen
Applications are invited for this Consultant vacancy. Applicants will hold a CCT (or be within six months as of interview date of obtaining CCT, or doctors who are on the GMC’s Specialist Register, or are eligible for inclusion) in the Psychiatry of Learning Disabilities.
This is an exciting time to join the Learning Disability Service in Grampian. The service is being developed to provide specialist Forensic services, alongside its generic Learning Disability services, which has led to the recent appointment of a Consultant in Forensic Learning Disability.
The post will be based at Elmwood on the Royal Cornhill Hospital site, Aberdeen. Elmwood is a recently opened Unit with a 12 bed Acute Admission Ward, a 12 bed Close Supervision Unit and a day service to support the inpatient Units. The vast majority of Consultant clinical work is now community based.
Areas of clinical responsibility will cover South Aberdeen and South Aberdeenshire and will include providing Psychiatric leadership to the multidisciplinary teams. The postholder will have the option to be responsible for a two/three day Shetland clinic twice a year. A great deal of liaison work is required, especially with local authorities, voluntary and private sector providers of care and with education.
The service has active programmes of Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching and it is expected that the appointee will contribute to these. The appointee will be expected to register with the Continuing Professional Development Programme of the Royal College of Psychiatrists for which all costs will be met by NHS Grampian. There are excellent opportunities for research and close links exist between NHS Grampian and the University Departments of Mental Health and Psychology. The appointee will be expected to contribute to audit and other elements of clinical governance.
The post is advertised as full time. Candidates unable for personal reasons to work full time however, will be eligible to be considered for the post and, if appointed, an appropriately amended job description will be agreed. If this post is not on the current Shortage Occupation list as issued by the UK Border Agency, it may not qualify for sponsorship. Applications from candidates who require sponsorship to work in the UK may not be considered if there are a sufficient number of other suitable candidates who have eligibility to live and work in the UK.
