BRADFORD TEACHING HOSPITALS
NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
Clinical Fellow in Gastrointestinal Radiology
(Fixed Term until 31st August 2010)
An opportunity has arisen for a post-CST Fellow in Gastrointestinal Radiology to
join the Imaging Directorate in Bradford Teaching Hospitals. This recurrently
funded, 12-month post has become vacant part-way through its current tenure,
due to the appointment of the current post-holder to a consultant post within the
Directorate. This post is therefore available until 31st August 2010.
The successful post-holder will be expected to participate in a comprehensive
gastrointestinal imaging and intervention service, including CT, MR, and Ultrasound
imaging, & biliary, colonic and oesophageal intervention. The post-holder will be
expected to participate in research and to contribute to scientific meetings
throughout the year. The Radiology Department is part of the Leeds and West
Yorkshire Training Academy and there is an active teaching programme for the
SpRs, to which the successful candidate will be expected to contribute. The post is
based at Bradford Royal Infirmary, but may include duties at St Luke’s Hospital,
Bradford. There is an opportunity for the post-holder to participate in the 1 in 8
Interventional on-call rota.
The Trust has an Agfa PACS system, which is integrated with the radiology
information system, incorporating voice recognition software that is used for
reporting. The radiology department performs approximately 230,000 studies per
year and is well equipped to provide a modern, comprehensive radiology service.
At the Infirmary site, there is a 64 slice GE VCT scanner and a 16 slice GE CT
scanner. There are two MRI scanners at the Infirmary site, a Siemens Avanto 1.5T
scanner, and an IGE Signa Horizon 1.0T scanner, which is currently being replaced.
There is an 8 slice GE multidetector CT scanner at St Luke’s Hospital and there is
currently access to a mobile PET-CT service. One of the Trust’s three ultrasound
departments has been completely refurbished this year, and there is a rolling
programme of ultrasound equipment replacement. A teleradiology system has
been installed in order to enable the transfer of images between the department
and radiologists’ homes for on-call purposes.
