BMJ Careers Online ad service help page
1. How to register
Before you can place an ad online, you’ll need to create an account. You can register for two types of account.
Firstly, and most easily, you can register to pay by credit card. Fill in your details on the registration page; you just need to fill in your email address, password and a few other details. When you click ‘register’ you can immediately use your email address and password to sign in and place an ad.
Please note - this log-in is separate from the log-in you might have for job alerts on bmjcareers.com but there’s nothing to stop you from registering with the same email address and password.
You can also register for a credit account. Instead of pre-paying with a credit card, we’ll invoice you for the advertisement you place. To do this click the ‘I’d like credit account’ tickbox and fill in the registration form. We’ll get back to you within one business day to tell you your account has been set up and to give you your password. When you log-in and place an ad, your account will be charged.
If you already have an invoice account with us, tick the checkbox that says ‘I already have an invoice account’, fill in the form and we’ll send you your log-in details so you can place ads online.
2. How to update your details
a. Credit card customers
If you’ve registered to pre-pay by credit card, you can amend and update your details at any time. Just sign-in and click on the ‘edit my account’ button. Then simply change what you need to and click ‘update’. If you only want to change your password, type in the new password where required and click ‘change password’.
b. Credit account customers
If you are an invoice account customer you can only change your password.
If you want to change any other part of your account please email us at: customerservice.careers@bmjgroup.com
3. How to advertise
Once you’ve signed in, click the ‘book an advert’ button. Then simply follow the steps to book an ad.
- First choose an edition. All advertisements go on the web. In addition you can choose either or both print editions of the BMJ. The hospital edition (CR) goes mainly to doctors working in hospitals or an academic environment. The GP edition goes mainly to the primary care sector. For more details go to our information page.
- Then choose an issue date. You can choose one or more dates. Click again to delete. Your ad will appear in the first available print edition (published on a Saturday); however the web ad will appear as soon as possible.
- Then choose a category. To see the classifications contained within each category, click here.
Depending on which category you have chosen you then have to choose further criteria including work pattern, region etc. You must include an order number (this can be anything – we just need something that you use to identify your ad).
- Then you need to choose a style of print ad. We have two: semi display and display.
i. Semi display - This is a more basic style consisting of plain, formatted text.
ii. Display – This style can be more elaborate with colour and graphics. You can either upload a complete PDF for the spec you have booked or we can design the ad for you. If we are designing the ad you can upload a logo or picture for us to incorporate.
Please note: If you are uploading a completed PDF it must be the correct dimensions (see the technical specifications on this page) and the correct specification.
- You can also upload supplementary documents to both types of ad. You can upload a job description, application form or any supplementary document relevant to your ad – free of charge.
Once you have built your ad you either pay for it by credit card via Worldpay, or simply add it to your account if you’re an invoice account customer.
4. How to use your ad history
Once you’ve signed in you can view your advertisements by clicking on ‘see booking history’.
Here, you can see your transaction history. You can see a list of all your ads or just see ads within a certain period. You can renew an ad or send us a notification of an amendment or cancellation.
Here, you can also upload supplementary documents for an ad you have already placed here.
5. FAQs
Can I use my existing BMJ Careers log-in to place an ad online?
No, you have to register separately. However, you can use the same email and password if you like to save yourself from having to remember two log-ins.
Can I place my ad online only?
Not at the moment. Your ad must go in at least one of the print editions of BMJ.
Can I view my ads in my ad history?
Not directly but you can view the online version (if it was a job ad) by looking in the BMJ Careers job archive or by accessing the public archive of print pages.
Alternatively, you can contact customerservice.careers@bmjgroup.com and we’ll send you a copy.
